Battery Life

My Sony VAIO laptop battery has decided enough is enough and tells me it needs to be replaced with a new one.

I only use my laptop at home so i could use it connected to my AC mains adaptor only,
if so should i remove the battery or does it need to be left in situ?

I don't really want to purchase a new battery when i only use the machine at home.

Any thoughts would be most welcome, thank you..

If the battery is not showing signs of leakage or swelling (rare for laptop batteries) I would leave it in situ. If the battery is not completely dead and can actually start the laptop to run for a few minutes, I would definitely leave it in situ.
