    Air raid shelters

Much like my parents. We used to shelter in the cellars of the Clifton Cinema in Great Barr, as Dad was the manager. Mom got fed up with it and said she would stay in the house in her own bed and just risk it.

    Nineveh Dance Studios, Handsworth

Here you are. I used to go to the Nineveh as a teenager - ballroom lessons on a Wednesday, and jive sessions on a Saturday night.

    Villa Road Handsworth

Thanks Lyn - Not seen the aerial photos before and they bring back many memories of an area where I grew up. I wonder what year Dennisons Watch Case Co was expanded to take in the houses on the left, as they weren't there when I was living just a couple of minute's away? I went on the tram...

    Villa Road Handsworth

I remember this shop as Mrs Payne’s sweet shop. The tram terminus was just outside.

    Villa Road Handsworth

Correct Radiorails - it was the No.5! It was a long time ago that I used this tram which used to stop outside Mrs Payne's sweet shop at the top of Villa Road which was the terminus. I can remember running along the tram pushing the seat backs to face the other way for the return journey.

    Villa Road Handsworth

I remember Bywaters being on that corner. As a teenager I was up and down Villa Road regularly, although in those days it was the No.6 tram that went up and down the road to Lozells, rather than buses!

    gothic terrace clifton road

Hello Malcolm. Wonderful that your grandfather, Thomas Ford, was living next door to my grandparents, Thomas and Rose Hanson in 1911 when they were living in No.17! What a small world! Your grandfather would probably have played with my auntie and uncle who would have been 7 and 5 years old...

    A. H. Bayes & Co and Archibald Kenrick

Yes I have most of that information, except I didn't know about the Royal Academy of Music. I do know that Emily's older 2nd cousin was also in the choir at the Church of the Messiah and was also a chorister who sang in various concerts. I used to pass the church regularly but didn't know of...

    A. H. Bayes & Co and Archibald Kenrick

Hello deiseboy. Great to see a photo of Emily Purdie Sellman's husband Archibald Kenrick. Unfortunately I have no photos of either of them, and haven't followed their line through further than to list their children. I do know that Emily sang and in 1863 before her marriage sang at a...

Hi Lynne, great to meet another cousin! I've sent you a message about this. John and Harriett ran an eating house at 40 Horsefair. Judy

    Soho College

I remember Rhona Blanchflower. Her father was a footballer called Danny Blanchflower. The other names don't ring bells with me. Unless the Vivienne you mention lived in Terrace Road and moved to the USA. Judy
