  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

I was just scrolling through some articles and seen some mention of Witton Perry Barr etc. Like most lads in the mid to late 60's I was in a 'group' the four of us Keith, Rick, Allen and myself used to play all around the area a lot of times in the Holte pub on a Thursday night ,(67) we probably thought we were "The Move" but it was more like "shift it" we had a lot of fun and met lots of people (mostly female!) happy days
 
Hi Brian. An interesting subject. I’ve changed the title of your thread, if that’s OK with you, so that others can record their memories. You may not have achieved fame but it must have been great fun at the time. Viv.
 
Yep that's great ta I dont have a computer or anything like that so I'm a bit slow trying to work things out but your right we had loads of fun and after 5 years although we were quite proficient by then we gave it all up for marriages and kids!
 
Did your band play at the Crown and Cushion in Perry Barr?
My friend and I used to go there sometimes in the late 60's.
 
Well Stone me yep that's where we started Rick and me were in the boys brigade dave and another lad can't remember his name started it off they left and Keith and Allan joined when the youth club transferred to ellisons canteen for a while, well I'm speechless fancy being remembered nearly 60 years later
 
I remember Keith and Rick - wasn't he Canadian? The other person I remember was called Dave I think, this would be back in 64/65 I guess? There was a guy called Mac who used to sing with you sometimes.
I went to the youth club for a year or so, nice crowd of people.

Yep that's right Rick was actually English but his family moved to Canada when he was young they returned when he was about 12 because his dad needed an operation its to my eternal regret that I totally lost contact with them all in about 69/70

There used to be a band that played at The Swan at Yardley, only Thursdays i think.

Can't remember their name but they played Fleetwood Mac covers and were very good.

They didn't do Albatross either, you need three guitarists for that don't you?

They covered Fleetwood Mac material from the Buckingham - Nicks era, Rumours etc.

Very strange really i heard them do all these wonderful songs but didn't realise at the time

where they came from.

It was some years later when i saw Fleetwood Mac in concert that the penny dropped.

I went to see them expecting to hear Albatross, but as Mick said that was another band.

Yep another era we all went our separate ways in 69 for marriages and children etc. I can still recall my two moments of fame. I was 'loaned out' to another band for a couple of weeks in 67 and had a gig in the support act for 'the Baron Knights' on my return we had a gig as the support act for the Foundations at the Plaza Rookery Rd but we couldn't go on the 2nd half because their roadies had damaged our equipment, but good memories all the same

I am the alto sax player that's the reason I left for America in 1957 to try to get into the big bands, it never happened I was not then a US Citz all union jobs. gave up glad I did I would have been dead years ago

Aye I know what you mean but full marks for trying to follow your dream
 
You know, thinking about all the bands that formed and played, maybe after the war, people wanted to relax have some fun, and dance away the horrors we went through, most of us just kids then. WE packed them in, every night we played and we certainly drank our fair share of beer! Happy times even if the pubs closed at 10 pm plus missing the last bus and having to walk home with our axes.
