Lovely photo's Phil. They take me back to the late 60's when I worked at my families Newsagent shop in Muntz St., and used to shop on the Coventry Rd. As the song goes 'Thanks for the memories'.
Thanks again Phil. The first pic here relates to another thread on this site about swimming/baths we used. This shows both Green Lane, baths & Library plus the Wimbush Bakery I mentioned.
Keegs.
Thanks for the memories Phil. In the late 40s and early 50s mom used to drag me to small heath (cov road) to do the shopping. After seeing these Photo's it seems like yesterday.
thanks from me too phil...since i started this thread in january it has had 35101 views which just goes to show how popular the old images are to our members and in my opinion so important to the forum....i just cant imagine us without our old photos as they evoke folks memories and get us talking which is why i always post mine on the main forum threads to keep them alive...will try and repost some more of mine over the weekend and give you a rest..thanks again phil..:encouragement:
Another trip along a street I remember quite well, when I got married in 1957 we lived in rooms in Lloyd Street just off Golden Hillock Road, and I worked at the BSA Armoury Road, went to all the cinemas along the Coventry Road, including the Apollo which our trip hasn't reached yet. I also used to shop along there and remember the Co-op, Hawkins drapers, Devoti's ice cream parlour and a lovely old fashioned grocery shop near the corner of Charles Road but can't remember the name at the moment. Thank you so much Phil.
thank you phil the wonderful trip..i am afraid my pics are not as orderly as yours..one min you could be in hockley..the next bordesley green..anyhow here we go...
Hi All,
Phil, thanks for these very interesting and evocative journeys. The pic of the Brighton Arms on Coventry Road brought back some good memories of 40-odd years ago. Is it still there, does anyone know? You have a magnificent collection of pics. If you're looking for suggestions, Fox & Goose to Saltley Gate via either Alum Rock Road or Washwood Heath Road (or both, but that would be cheeky!), would be of particular delight to me. Again, many thanks.
Stan
