  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

Stars I am trying to find any info on Red Lion, known to the locals as the Barlows,at 72 Duke Street,Gosta Green. John Stanley was the publican there from 1884-1903. Would you have a photo please?

The Red Lion was still there in the 60s I remember it and there is a photo of it maybe Phil has a copy.Dek
 
Was The Red Lion the pub directly opposite the old police-stables? If so, it was certainly still open in the 1960's as we sometimes went on a Saturday night for a good old-fashioned sing-song. Or am I confusing this with some other pub on Duke Street?

Hello carolina, I am busy doing too many things at once but If and when I come across a picture of it in the next few days I will post it on this thread. I must say it does not ring a bell but I do have a lot of papers to sift through.

This one is The Apple Tree in Dudley Street and a handwritten line on the back says the year is 1898

mike when i first posted this one ages back you gave us the number which you have done so again...could you post a map please showing the position... ive got a feeling it was on the left hand side going away from the city centre towards hockley hill..

This is R.J.Bradshaws Dining rooms in Dudley Street 1895. At one time the establishment boasted the best 6d dinner in town but in 1895 I would think 6d would have been expesive for a dinner. The beer served was made by Holders and was made at a brewery in Nova Scotia Street not far from Digbeth.

This lovely old picture is The Bell in 1965. It was located on the corner of Bell Barn Road and Bristol Street, it should not be confused with The Bell Barn Tavern which just was a few minutes walk away.
