horace baxter shoe shop

Welcome ot the Forum.
I think you might need to give a bit more information for our members to try and help.
Where was the shop - road and, if possible, number. what dates are we talking about? Thanks

he was in the 70s , he later moved to above the shoe shop (i went there once) he lived there with Maralyn and her son Ross , they both moved to the USA after his death , just trying to find some history on my mothers side of the family , he is buried in kings norton church cemetery , the 1939 register is correct

Even in 1970 he is recorded on erolls as living at Bottecourt Road. Online erolls stop after that date.

The death of his wife, Harriet Evelyn, in 1992 has a probate address of Botttecourt Road

no , i do remember she had a son Ross and was told they both moved to america after horace died , he was by then living on the fold in kings norton and had changed his name to "Max Baxter" god knows why , his grave says Horace Baxter , nans son bought the house in selly oak off the council , Terry Baxter who i think is still alive , he used to own Motor salvage in redditch .

it had a flat above which was let to marion and ross , baxter left his wife and moved in above the shop which was his shoe shop with marion , just interested to find more history , marion would be passed but Ross may still be alive in the USA

The last eroll online (1972) for 174a has Lilian J Combellack listed.

In 1968 #174 is listed so likely to have been a house and 174a had Combellack couple

The names listed are Alfred and Jane L in 1968. Alfred I think dies in 1970. Then Lilian J - which could be Jane if she swapped the order of her names. She seems to have married Alfred as lilian Jane so could be the same person. Lilian seems to die in 1980 in Leicestershire.
I think you would need to check the erolls at the library and see who is listed there after 1972

there is a listed marion baxter with a associate Ross baxter in the US (i did not know them to have got married) but she may have taken the name when she went , she would be long passed now but ross may still be alive .

Two things to check out - might just be coincidence

Marriage in Birmingham in 1977 of Horace Baxter to Marion Bleakman

Birth in Bimingham 1956 of a Ross Bleakman

Marion Bleakman is on 1971 eroll in St Benedicts Road
