Hi,
I have a birth certificate for Amelia Deeming, year 1850.
Her father, Charles Deeming, is documented as a publican running a tavern in wheeler street, Birmingham in 1850. The taverns name is unclear, I can make out “chick???, as anyone any info that may help or point me in the right direction?

Many thanks for reading,
Phil Deeming

Charles Deeming is listed as a beer retailer in Wheeler St in the 1850 Post Office Directory. As it was not named then this means it was a beerhouse, licensed to sell beer and cider only. Have not found him on 1851 census
A Charles Deeming, licensee, does appear to be mentioned in the papers later as follows:
Dec. 1869 giving up license of "no sign" beerhouse at 115 Bloomsbury st
May 1870 Being open at unproper hours at Lord Nelson. Booth St (while there he was also prosecuted for bad treatment of a horse)
Oct 1875 Giving up the license of rolling mill Tavern , Thimble Mill Lane

Hi,
Many thanks for the info, much appreciated.
You mentioned “papers”, what papers are you referring to and were would I be able to view them?

The papers were from the British newspapers website (or Find my past site). You have to buy credits or have a subscription to view. The relevant cuttings are below. If you save the cuttings then the file name gives the paper and date :
Aris's Birm Gazette.10.4.1869.jpg Birm Gazette 8.10.1869.jpg Birm Gazette.23.5.1870.jpg Birm mail.8.8.1871.jpg Birm post.8.4.1869.jpg Birm post.8.10.1875.jpg Birm post.8.12.1882.jpg

1851 census the family is listed in Booth Street with Charles down as a retail brewer.

Just found Amelia's baptism and Charles is listed as a coal dealer!! This is at St Stephens church.
Charles' probate refers to him as "late of the Lord Nelson Booth Street".
