GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN R.I.P.
Wireless story
Playing clarnies in the gutter, when suddenly windows and doors came flying open, all our neighbours came rushing out into the street, shouting screaming and laughing, shouting out the war is over. We all gathered around Mr Warners open window to hear Churchill’s speech telling Victory was won and the war is now over the hushed crowd broke out into cheering, laughing and crying, the dark days are now over and the war is a thing of the past. A Joe anna was trundled into the street and the merry making began. Mr Tustin the air raid warden was doing a jig throwing is tin helmet into the air shouting no more patrolling the streets telling people to put out their bloody lights. And the beer kept flowing all through the night no more worries of enemy planes over head, then it was of to rest our weary heads on our beds what a day

Great snapshot of that moment John.
My Father in Law, came round to look at Pauls photos of the VE celebrations in town. One of the stories he spoke of as we sat perusing, was of his family carring out the piano, placing it under the window on the pavement and everyone singing and celebrating
