Summers, ellen

Brummie babby
I am looking for my Great Grandmothers possible burial place. Her name was Ellen Garoghan born around 1886 ish, her first marriage was to John Henry Dolan though he passed away quite young so it seems (I would love to find his burial area too if possible). Her second husband was John Summers. Ellen and John Henry Dolan had two children (I think) one was my Grandfather Thomas Patrick Dolan who, for personal reasons, became a British Home Child and was sent to Canada. Long story here but I will say Ellen was a wonderful and loving mother...I want to pay my respects to this lady but have no idea where she is buried. Gran died around 1919, maybe a little later, and it may be possible she had a paupers burial so no headstone. I am looking for the cemetery if possible and if anyone can help I would be very grateful

hi cazza
i suggest that our specialist wendy will be able to track this one for you whom deals with all these
and it would not surprize me its gonna be witton cem; or key hill via ; ickneld street cemetry;
many years ago i had a friend by the name of patrick dolan whom had blonde hair we called him tex ;
he lived in a back to back house in camden street and he used to tell us about his grand father coming over here to england he had not been here long himself with his parents from ireland
he had a sister but i cannot recall her name ; and it would not surprize me if they never lived to far from each other and as it was brum ;in those days i think it was those two cemetrys that took the burials around that period
i had a relativeborn around that period and they lived out side the area ;f these cemetrys whom
was burried in the ickneild street side of the key hill cemetry when we pased with my mother she would say to me sa your grand parents relative are burried in there
never nor less i am sure our wendy will turn up trumps for you . best wishes astonian

I have checked Key Hill and Warstone Lane cemeteries around the date given with no luck. Do you know in what area of Birmingham they lived as this sometimes helps.

Thank you astonian for replying. It seems that my maternal and paternal families lived very close to each other in the Aston area of Brum and they all seemed to move around quite often. Just a case of finding where Gran now lies. Thanks again Cazza

Hi Alberta. Yes that's my 'lot' James' wife Elizabeth was actually Jewish but her family disowned her as she married a catholic man. Their son James was actually the father of James Callaghan ex PM. One or two skeletons in the cupboard which I found recently...Thanks for posting

Hello Wendy and thanks for taking the trouble in looking. I know Gran lived 1/17 Upper Highgate Street in Birmingham for a while. It does seem that Aunty Nellie moved to 180c Great barr street after Gran died but not sure when exactly. It looks like Gran never moved from Upper Highgate st when she found out her son had been sent to Canada just in case any letters he wrote never reached her. I would also love to find out where John Henry Dolan was buried if that's at all possible. They brought their children up as Catholic and I know they both loved their children. With many thanks again for looking
