Reverse Image Searching

This could be an incredibly useful tool to find the origins, location or history of an image; it’s called Google Reverse Image Searching.

Instead of typing in words in the search engine box, you select a photo from your computer and – much in the same way as traditional word Internet searches – the search engine finds and returns results where it finds that image, or images that look extremely similar (for example the same image but cropped or resized.)

You can then browse other webpages that contain that image you looked for, discovering where else on the Internet it is located at various points in time.

Here is a link: https://images.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl

It doesn't seem to find Facebook images. Maybe Facebook have done a deal with them not to look

A few years ago I noticed Google 'harvested' pics from this forum if the pics were visible to non logged-in users, ie. pics you may have used from Coppermine etc.

Google generally cannot see pics that are uploaded within the forum, ie. only visible to logged in users. If a pic is one of your own (not copied from elsewhere) it can be useful to see if anyone has copied the pic and posted it somewhere else.

Google 'harvest' the forum avatars and if they are not stock pics the results can be interesting ...

If you use Gmail you will have a Google Account and using 'history' you can see every search you have made over at least a year .... they even have a guess at your gender and age, if you have not already told them !

Not to worry ... :)
