Hi

I hope someone can help me, please!. On the 1901 census Mary Bates is living at 85 New Summer Street occ. Shopkeeper/greengrocer. Is there any entry in Kelly's directory that would confirm this?

Best wishes

In the 1900 Kellys no 85 new summer st is not listed, and in the 1904 edition it is Albert Highfield, dairy. in the 1900 kellys there is a Mrs Mary Bates, shopkeeper of 23 Cranford st, smethwick

Thank you, Mike :)

I am a bit confused about this 1901 entry now though! It describes her as a Shopkeeper, greengrocer and working at home. The bit that says 'employer,Worker or own account' has a word I can't quite make out - maybe "Landee" ????
Will keep the Smethwick lady in mind!

Best wishes
