Hi.
Only recently found the forum so I've been browsing a few threads and remembering my time at Bordesley Green Tech (61-65) and also the fairground in Stechford Lane. I can remember when the shooting stalls had Remington rifles, secured by a chain, and REAL bullets that you had to load yourself, except that they were probably wax as opposed to lead.
I can remember 'Whites' although it must be over two decades since I visited there. Can't believe it's still going. There used to be another place in Shakespeare Street (I think), a specialist where they supplied all sorts of bolts and nuts.
As for me, I was 'dragged up' in such an establishment. View the image. Stechford Lane. The shop, when last seen, was a hair salon. In those days, 1955, to one side on the corner was Boyd's Electrical, and to the other was the Jolly Teapot Cafe, owned for a period be an ex Walsall Goalkeeper, Jack ??? He sold up and retired to Fradley IIRC.
And you wouldn't believe the trouble I'm having obtaining a 'Gas Hose Connector, 1/2" BSP Male Tapered'. I've found a website supplier 'down the Smoke' but the postage costs are twice the value of the item.
