Hans louis rainbow living at 25 snow hill birmingham 1890-1950?

Dear Gang,

I know he was living here in 1911 as a furniture dealer. Would love to know his period of residence in Birmingham and addresses and if he moved out who lived at 25 Snow Hill before and after.

tHANKS

He was entered as Lewis Rainbow age 24 b. Austria as a boarder in hurst street 1901.
In the trade directory he is entered at 25 Snow hill as Rainbow Louis Miss
I believe his name is Moss Louis Rainbow as the 1911 has him as Moss Lewis.
A Moss L Rainbow married in 1913 to Pauline Rapaport.
Pauline Rapaport b. 1880 Austria lived in N. Manchester
Pauline Rainbow died in Birmingham 1955 ,April qtr
Moss Louis Rainbow died in birmingham 1955 Dec qtr.

He didn’t stay in furniture. I only associated the clothing firm to him after looking at the electoral rolls. But a descendent apaprently did (see last entry)
The first appearance in Kellys I can find is 1903 in Broad st, on the corner with Cumberland St:
1903-5 Rainbow Moss L. cabinet maker, 61 Broad street
1908-10 Rainbow Moss L. cabinet maker, 31 Aston st. T N 245Y (must have been a significant business with a phone in 1908)
1912 Not listed, nor is 321 Aston St (In this year 25-26 Snow hill ia Great Western furniture stores)
1913 Moss Louis , furniture dealer (the Miss is only added in the names listing. In the street listing it is not included)
1915 & 1921 Neither Rainbow nor that address listed

1932-46 Rainbow’s Waterproof clothing Manuf.,162 Corporation St
1949-56 Rainbow’s Raincoats, waterproof clothing manuf. 162 Corporation St
The electoral roll shows :
1925 Louis Moss Rainbow and Julian Rainbow 241 Hagley road 1927-30 Louis Moss, Pauline, Julian & Robert David Rainbow 241 Hagley Rd 1935 Moss Louis , Pauline & Rita Lilian Rainbow listed at 18 forest Road, Moseley 1939 No one listed at no 18 (though unconnected people at Flat at 18)
1945-50 Julian seems to live there with others
Also (business address)
1925 Louis Moss and Julian Rainbow listed at 160/162 Corporation St
1927 Louis Moss, Robert David & Julian Rainbow listed at 160/162 Corporation St
1930-35 Moss Louis and Pauline Rainbow listed at 160/162 Corporation St
Also
1962-65 Rainbow Lilian (Mrs.), secondhand furniture dlr. 89 Lichfield rd. Aston 6

He was possibly married twice.
A Louis Rainbow married in 1902 possibly to Rose Davis
Rose Rainbow died in 1910 age 35.
2 of the people listed are Julian b.1903 and Rita Lilian born 1908
no Robert David but a David born 1904.
Possible children of Louis and Rose.?

Hi Gang,

just wanted to let you know that i found that it was Louis Rainbow who moved to 400 High Street West bromwich in 1911, I guess due to the premature death of his wife. I have a feeling he night have even given up the furniture business
Interesting how a few pieces of information can tie up some times.
Cheer,
Gareth

In this year 25-26 Snow hill ia Great Western furniture stores) 1913
Does Great Western Furniture store appear in the Ke11ys 1915-21 at the above address or other address.
The reason I am asking is to see if this organisation continued to operate.
Regards,
gareth

Great Western Furniture Stores is not listed in either 1915 or 1921.
25-26 Snow Hill is not listed in 1915
In 1921 :
25 Reliance Sports Depot , Athletic Outfitters
26 Gorton, William A, cycle dealer
“Sports Depot” has a curiously modern ring to it. Would never have thought of it as a firms name in 1921

Gareth,

You've probably caiught up with this already and there may be no connection but there is mention in Michael Minton's "Heroes of the Birmingham Air Raids" that a Harold Rainbow was awarded the George Medal following a 1940 air raid on Birmingham. Also an image.
