Well thank 'e Thylacine but I think your confidence may be a little misplaced in the universality of my knowledge.

All I can say is that there were and are a number of local cricket clubs as well as the famous Warwickshire County Cricket Club in Edgbaston including Harborne and Aston Manor, the following map link shows those surviving https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=e...roup&ct=more-results&resnum=1&ved=0CCwQtwMwAA

The house/hotel called Rhonallea in Emma's pic could be in Edgbaston but a search brings up the possibility of a hotel in Kent https://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/35346/pages/6612/page.pdf and https://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/35279/pages/5492/page.pdf which would need to be discounted before a search in Birmingham.

I am sure the forum has many Cricket history fans on the forum that may be able to suggest more detail - good luck in your search.

I wonder if that team on my photo was part of the old Aston Unity club Alf?. Carolina I bet you had some good times as we did watching my brother play football. I can't remember anyone in the family playing cricket though. Jean.

Jean you could e-mail them here

https://astonunity.play-cricket.com/contactus/writeemail.asp?email=3

Also they are on Facebook

Or you could go back to my link and e-mail all the local clubs & post the photo to them somebody on the Forum could tidy it up for you.

They may want to put it in their collection if it was their club. I have found a couple more and will copy them later. Thanks Alf. Jean.

I am not sure what the first one is of but the second is a very old cricket team. Jean. Sorry I have put the same photo on will try again.

They might Jean and they might tell you the year and that would help you, but only if you contact them if they were mine I would have done it by now.

Alf I have hundreds of old photo's and some I am not sure whether they are family or not. Would take me for ever but I will pursue the cricket one. Jean.

Hi Emma
You mention that your husband's grandfather lived around Edgbaston. You might find the book 'Balsall Heath: A History' by Valerie M Hart, of interest.
In it she writes (page58)
"Sport in general was a popular form of relaxation and especially favoured was cricket. The Pickwick Club, now located in Wake Green Road was founded in 1858, and had its own ground in St Paul's Road, as well as a fine reputation. Their most extraordinary moment of glory came in 1878 when they were the only club in Britain to play the Australian touring team visiting England for the first time. The match was played at Selly Oak and was remarkable for the imbalance of the teams. Pickwick played 22 against the Australian 11! Unfortunately, rain stopped rather eventful play on the second day of the match."
There are photographs of both teams. Your husband might spot his grandad!
