Crompton Family Photos

Michael_Ingram

gone but not forgotten
These three are my Great Grandfather, Francis Harry Crompton, My Great Grandmother Maria Crompton (nee Haycock), and my Grandfather Francis Harry Crompton. Both father and son were cabinet makers. In 1875 Francis and Maria emigrated to New York. They sailed from Liverpool
on SS Spain and arrived in New York 12 Nov 1873. Francis and Maria were 26 and with them were their two children, Robert a baby and Anne aged 4. My Grandfather Francis was born in New York about 1875. The family returned to England sometime before 1879. I have an attendance certificate for Francis from Gower Street Board School.
The photographs seem to be taken on the same day (see furniture, etc.,) probably in the early to mid 1890s. It is possible that other family members were photographed too but I don't have them; they probably went to other branches of the Cromptons).
At the time they were living at 226 Farm Street.
The photographers Powls & May crop up from time to time on sites

You can see their address on the cards; I guess my family went to the Summer Lane studio

Lovely photo's Michael I could look at them all day. My Jennings family lived in Farm Steet. I think the properties were owned by my great grandfather who lived in Burbury Street. No 236 back of 275 no 229 and 231 are all on death certificates. I know he owned several properties I will have to look at rent books. They must have known each other so interesting.

They are lovely photos michael we should all ask family members about photos as I think its wonderful to see what your ancestors looked like, I only recently discovered that my aunt had photos of my gg grandparents which I have posted on this site and I found out that my gg grandmother was from galway.

Another set of great photographs.....and with their names even better...hope to see some more from all of us......
