Thanks. So it was an inter works competition then. I believe that back in the twenties and thirties firms would be more likely to employ guys who were good at football so they could put out a strong team.
 
Sorry for last post, just found this, have asked same question because my dad got a job (I now know at the Wolseley) because he was a good goalkeeper!
