Does anyone know what Building? or Factory stood on the land in front of the Library and the REP I noticed today in the area where the new fountain will go there is a what appears to be the remains of possibly a Cellar of a Factory Floor there is substitutional brick work that can be seen, the is a smaller brick wall and for some reason in the area of the trench the builders have left what looks like a concrete? or brick wall? here are 10 photos of the site as it was this morning https://www.flickr.com/photos/dofartshavelumps/36183033162/in/dateposted/

I wondered if it's part of Winfields Brass foundry. I thought there were substantial archaelogical excavations of the site before the library development. Viv.

I searched for this old thread as it refers to the land by the Library (and Winfield Brass) where there are new excavations.
rosie.

I've just searched one the old threads about the excavations but I don't know how to link it!
Lyn's thread has pics of Winfields etc.
rosie.

hello rosie are you saying that there are excavations going on right now? or are you talking about the winfield brass excavation of 2009

lyn x

oh thanks rob..i must be slipping:Dwonder if its worth me taking a look..not sure exactly what the public can see of it..

also thank you rosie for the heads up

lyn

Don't think the archeoligical dig would have removed all the remains unless it was necessary for foundations.
Anyway the present builders were obviously afraid Lyn would come and take all their bricks !

It's actually for the redevelopment of Centenary Square.

This photo from the library was taken at the beginning of July 2017.

And this was at the beginning of May.

The lost photos originally posted by Astoness and retrieved by Oldmohawk from Photobucket in post #104 have now been replaced into the individual posts. Viv.

thanks horecart..could possibly have been part of the canal basin...just a guess

lyn

Does anyone know if there is currently any archaeological work going on in the Square ? Think we need to make it clear to readers as this thread was originally started to show the archaelogical dig in 2009. Can anyone tell from Ell's and Horsencart's images ? Thanks both for keeping us in the picture about developments there. Viv.
