Hi Lynn, sorry to read you've been ill, quinsy is awful. My husband had it very bad and ended up having his tonsils out. Hope you get well soon.
85 Bordesley Green was my Doctors surgery when we lived in Little Green Lane. It was just like going to someone's house. The waiting room would have been the sitting room originally. I remember it being very dark and old fashioned. My Aunt Win lived at 2 back of 110 Victoria Street, which is shown on the map backing on to the shops and no 85, so we knew that area well. 'The Green', as we called it, had some lovely shops. Bit different now.:(

thanks lynn i really hope for an improvement in the next day or so..at the min im wiped out...

what you have said about no 85 fits in well with what the lady i am helping has told me...she lived in that house for many years with her parents who were caretakers for the doctor and left prior to demolision...as said it could be difficult to find a photo of this house as it laid back so much....fingers crossed though

Lyn, I looked at previous posts on here about the Doctors and at one point someone had posted a picture of it. It's not showing now though, is that because it's an old post?

hi lynn do you have any idea how along ago the photo was posted....still should be on the forum but not knowing the thread title it could be hard to locate...will give it a go though

lyn

Lyn, there's a Bordesley Green Facebook page that seem to have a lot of photos. I'm not on FB so can only have a limited look.

same here lynn i dont do facebook either but i will ask a mate who does to have look...good idea

Is this the surgery of Dr Jones? I have a feeling it was set back from the road, and it was a big house, but I have no very clear memory of the outside of it.

That was our doctor's surgery, and though I can remember the inside clearly, I can't visualise the outside or surroundings. I hope someone can find a photo - I'm not on FB either.

Had a look at the Bordesley green page. Did not know the building, but could not seem to find any on the page that fitted the description of a set back building that was a surgery/house

This is the nearest I've found but only shows the fence and the tree in the garden of 85, just behind the car.

wow that is brill lynn thank you so much...its a smashing photo and we are getting closer...as said before the problem is that the house lies back off the road..thanks again:)

It brings back a lot of memories to me. My Aunt Win lived at the start of Victoria St, at the back of a hairdressers called Ella's. My mom was a dinner lady at what was then Bordesley Green Tech school for boys on Bordesley Green Road. A nice little area at the time. I've remembered that one of the ladies that looked after the Doctor's house was called Mrs Franklin.
Hope you're feeling better, Lyn.

yes lynn the area like so many was so nice back then...thanks for your memories as well...thanks for asking...only started to feel an improvement yesterday but it really knocked me about...nearly got my voice back and the awful pain has nearly gone now..finish the tabs tomorrow but im not pushing it just yet

Hi Lyn Mrs Franklin was my mum, I have still not manage to find a photo of the property have a couple in the yard area at the back and a group pic of Dr Bowen's retirement. Will scan them in and put on here, I am so grateful for everyone's help maybe one will turn up.

hi sheila and welcome to the forum....we would love to see those photos you have as it will add to the history of number 85 and at least we do have that long shot photo on post 19 ...many thanks

Just shown the photo of Bordesley Green to Graham and it brought back a lot of memories. He lived in Price Albert Street and his friend lied in Palace Road. He remembered Dr Jones before I mentioned him. Lovely photo and so sad that it's all gone. So much character there then.

Hi Sheila,
How lovely to hear from Mrs Franklin's daughter! If I remember correctly did she also help dispensing the prescriptions? As I recall there was an area behind the waiting room where you collected them.
Lynn.

Hi Lady P.
We loved Dr Jones. I remember him coming in to me when I had measles when I was about 4. We lived off Little Green Lane at the Coventry Road end. He was more like a friend than a Doctor. I seem to remember there was some tragedy with some members of his family involving a car accident.

Lynn.

She was more a receptionist and did take in urine to test it for the doctors. Yes she did hand out prescriptions from behind the partition. I got married from this house in 1962 .

I have a few pics of the back yard and Dr Bowens retirement I so wished I had taken photo's. It had 4 attics and 4 cellars to extra receptions as well as the waiting room. A huge Kitchen that had a box on the wall that had red stars in it and when a bell was pushed in any room it rang in the kitchen. So many memories
