    Steward Street School

Hi. I know this is a bit late. I have been in contact with John Temp. Delboy66, the play you are thinking of with Jeffrey Walli was called "Choirboys Revenge", a different play to the one that John referred to. I think it was a bit later, around 1960,

    Bell Heath school camp

Bell Heath outward bound centre is located just outside Romsley. It would have been the Clent Hills not the Clee Hills.

    Great Charles Street School

Hi Everyone. My father was born in 1919 in King Edwards Road, Ladywood. He said his first school was Gt Charles street school. Many of his friends said he was wrong that there wasn't a school there. He insisted he was right and told me he used to go in via a back entrance in Cambridge street. I...

    Ladywood Coal Merchant

I know this is VERY late to this thread but I hope it is still picked up. Firstly, the coal man in Clark Street. When I first met my wife, in 1964, she lived at 33 Clark street and there was a horse and cart stabled behind their house. They had a wide entry, obviously. This was about four doors...

    Steward Street School

Hi John Do you have the book "Story of a school"? I have a photocopy version. It is the book on the subject you mention. I attended Steward Street from 1952 to 1958. I remember it as a happy time. Couldn't really comment on whether the education system was any different to anywhere else as we...

    betholem row

PJM what an interesting article. Is it still there, I wonder or have they built over it?

    Speed skating

That's him. His eyesight was always very poor as I seem to recall. I think he had diabetes. Sadly, he passed away in 2019.

    Superb. Thanks Mike.

    betholem row

Lady Penelope, thank you. I knew it had to be around Bath Row somewhere. What a great photo of the "Row". Thank you again.

    betholem row

Thanks for the reply Astoness but I don't think it is Bartholomew Row. I am attaching the census form and it is spelled quite distinctly Betholom Row. Did the parish of St Thomas reach as far as where Bartholomew Row is?

    Tube Works in Ladywood

The second address is LEDSAM street. The engineering works was next to the soap works between the street and the canal. I believe it was the property that was to become Bellis and Morcom.

My cousin Barry Moulsdale was also a member of the Mohawks at about the same time. Did you know him?

    betholem row

1851 census shows ancestors at Betholom Row. It appears to have been in the St Thomas Parish, so I presume it was somewhere near Bath Row. Does anyone know for sure just where it was?

    Springhill Ice rink Summerhill Road

Rogerstan, Was your dad the window cleaner? Did he live down Shakespeare Road, way? If he was, he was a mate of my dad's. There are loads of old photos of Ladywood on the "Old Ladywood" website. I have also got a number in my collection, if I can help with any.

    The Green Kings Norton

Could this have been The Saracens Head. This is a famous, historic public house on The Green.

    Springhill Ice rink Summerhill Road

oldMohawk, Yes Barry is in the picture on #79. He is in the centre, at the back. The only one wearing specs. His eysight has now deteriorated to the point where he is registered blind. I believe this is due to his Diabetes. I haven't seen him for a while but do have regular contact with his...

    Springhill Ice rink Summerhill Road

I know this thread has been going for some time, but I don't come on to this site very often. I must say I don't think I ever heard the "rink" called "Springhill ice rink". It was on the corner of Goodman Street and Summerhill Street and we always new it as Summerhill Rink. I lived round the...

    Ladywood In The 1870s

Roger, what a coincidence, I have just been reading another thread re TYNDAL Street. Somewhere between 1870 and 1890 it was re-named SLOANE Street. It is off Camden Street (near the Parade end). It is a small cul-de-sac (although I don't think they called it that in those days!). My maternal...

    William Mosedale - George Cross

Alan, I am intrigued as to which Alan you are. I don't use this site very much so don't know how to contact you, other than on here. I would love to chat with you privately, but how do we pass on details? Albert
