Phyllis Nicklin's family

Phyllis Nicklin was born to father Charles Horace Nicklin (b.1880, Aston d.1920) and mother Amelia Jane Wright (b.18 July 1879, Aston, d. June 1969). Her parents were married in the district of Kings Norton in 1906 (1). Phyllis was born on 9 May 1909 (2) and by 1911, Phyllis and her parents had moved to 18 Link Road in Ladywood, Birmingham (3). In 1920 her brother Harold C Nicklin was born (2).

When her father, Charles, died in 1920 (4) Phyllis was only 11 years old. Seven years later Phyllis was living with her mother, Amelia Jane, and her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Amelia, at 44 Gillott Road, Edgbaston (5). They were still living at this address in 1940 (5). In that same year, on 29 October, Elizabeth Amelia died at the age of 84 (address was recorded as 1 Western Road, believed to be Dudley Road Hospital) (4 and 10).

Subsequent records show that in 1945 Phyllis, her mother (Amelia Jane) and her brother (Harold C) had moved to 84 Willow Avenue in Edgbaston (5). Three years later, Harold was married in Birmingham (1). Records show that he died in Rhyl, Wales in 1985 (4).

Phyllis's mother, Amelia Jane, died on the 17th June 1969 at her home 16 Middle Park Road, Selly Oak (4). Phyllis was the official witness to her mother’s death, and would sadly pass away herself just months later on the 18 November at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (4). She was 60 years old.

Thanks for putting this together Viv, she is a fascinating woman who we knew very little about.

I tried editing the original post, but afraid I couldn't, so added the image again below.

Image of a postcard sent out at Christmas by Phyllis Nicklin's parents in about 1910.

Yes, of course....it's a really nice image of Middleton Hall Road, probably because that's where the family it was sent to were living.

Sometime between their marriage in 1906 and when they moved to Link Road in 1911, as the postcode gives the address 59 Northfield Road. 59 is one of the houses closer to the Cotteridge end of Northfield Road.
