Getting Logged Out

I've just noticed if I log in to the https connection first and then log in to the https connection, the https seems to work without random log outs ... I think must test further...:)

Addition
Further tests confirm if a computer has logged into the https connection it is then ok working with the https connection.

I find when logging on that about 25% of the time that I am not actually logged on even though I always tick the stay logged on box, it's a bit of a nuisance but not a great problem as it only takes seconds to log in.

I know but it only seems to happen on some threads. The weird thing is that it looks as if I am logged in until I leave the thread. I can go for weeks without logging back in.

Also getting logged out using iPad, doesn't happen with any other forums so something must have changed as no change to iPad software or operating system.

Still happening to me more often than not - still I know my password (allocated, not chosen) off by heart now!!

as ive said before it does not bother me if i am logged in or out..cant forget my password as ive had the same one since i joined bhf:)

It doesn't bother me I am just puzzled why it only happens sometimes. It is as if the way someone posts then triggers a log out when that thread is read. I just wondered if it was only me.

I almost don't like to tempt fate and post this but since last week I seem to have stayed logged in!
Has anyone else found it better for them recently?

Sorry Sparks I've just had to log back in after looking at Mike's newspaper thread!!!
It was OK for a while though.
rosie.

I've found the opposite, was ok for a good few months but now having to log in every time. This is using Safari/iPad.

Never had any problem, except occasionally on 'imagine hosting' (copper mine) but rarely use that so not bothered. I use Internet Explorer 11, then click on history storage. Eric

I've been "logged out" about three times today whilst trying to read "recent posts" as I do most days. When I click the little dot for the most recent, I get kicked out!!
rosie.

P.S. I forgot to say that the box with "Members online" still said I was logged in even when I wasn't!

I did tempt fate with this post - it was fine for a while but not so good now!!

Strangely I'm fine on my home laptop but when I log in at work while I'm having my lunch, I frequently get kicked off and can't view the images even though my name continues to appear in the top right hand corner.

A few hours ago I was smugly going to post that I never have any problems re logging in/out. It's a good job I didn't for I have just been logged out twice in 5 minutes. Seems OK at the moment though, fingers crossed. Eric

I've yet to be logged out without asking it to.

Since logging in only requires that a cookie is placed on the PC there are no technical reasons why the server should be doing this.

I dont touch my cookies on my phone or PC and have never been logged out.

For those getting logged out what anti virus and browser are you using let's see if we can find a pattern.

Not that it bothers me but I have also started finding when come on to the forum that I have been logged off even though I have ticked the box to remain logged on. I'm using IE11 and Kaspersky AV.

I use an iPad with the Safari browser and no anti virus and it has remained logged in for at least a month. I also use Windows 10 with Chrome, Edge, and Norton AV and because I've set the browsers to keep the BHF cookies they will remain logged in when I close them. I generally don't leave a Windows computer logged into places so I often deliberately log out ... it only takes seconds to log back on !

Hello Warren, it's Firefox and AVG. I always log out after a "visit" so it doesn't matter about always having to log in every time.
Also it says in the box I'm still logged in when it happens.
Thank you for all you do for the Forum!
rosie.

Just got kicked out again! In the box it said I was the only member logged in but I wasn't!!
rosie.

I agree with Eric that when you come back to the Forum and find you are logged out, it's no great hassle to login again.

However..... there is definitely something funny going on at the moment. I can be logged in, I try to edit a post, and then am told I need to login, I log in, try to do an edit again and am told the same thing. An eternal loop which I cannot get out of.

Chris

PS Doesn't happen with all messages - I am editing this!!!
PPS BUT... at least this thread refuses to be edited:
It's Chriiiiiiiiiiistmaaaaas

Had a spate of logging out this last couple of days, can't use the "Alert" button, getting photos that only show as "IMG" small black square despite being logged on. Using "Edge", F-Secure,

Hi Rosie .... I suppose we all use our computers differently but try the following ...

Open the BHF in your usual way but don't log in.
While not logged in, click on the link below.
https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php
Then log in on the forum page which appears, ticking the 'remember me' box, and use the forum as you normally do. Continue using the forum as normal but don't use any of your existing forum bookmarks or favourites if you have them.

If you use 'tabbed browsing', close the tab on which your original page appeared.
If you don't use 'tabbed browsing' no need to do anything.

All the above method does is to ensure that you use and stay on the https version of the forum.
I use the Chrome browser and the Win 10 Edge browser but am not familiar with Firefox.

I commented about this in previous posts and actually experimented and could make my computers randomly log out when it was apparently picking up https links

See how it goes, if it does not work we will find another way, probably trying a different browser. There are no problems using more than one browser in computers ... you can even use two at the same time.

oldmohawk ...:)

Hi Warren, can I first add my thanks to you too. Much appreciated. My home firewall is Macaffee (which is fine) and my work one is Norton Antivirus (which has glitches).

Thank you oldmohawk, I have re-logged in as you suggested
I only use one browser, I leave the rest to my husband, everything seem so complicated these days!
rosie.

Hi oldMohawk, Thank you again for the advice. I deleted the bookmark I was using (https) and replaced it with the one you posted.....So far so good!!
rosie.

OldMohawk, I've used the link you suggested and have been logged out less frequently, but something is still not quite right, see attached, you can see, top right that I am signed in but the link to your picture is denied to me!

Hi Jim, I have tried experiments with the https link and it sometimes works ok for a time but will inadvertently log out when doing a search which goes for a https post. I recently had to remove all BHF https bookmarks that I had somehow collected in my devices.

Hi Again oldMohawk, your post #85, I'm still having difficulty but will keep trying. I've copied the instructions you gave Rosie and will persevere! Thank you.
